School Update

Day Two was a success!  And I promise I won't do a school update every day, but there were a few more necessary pictures and questions that needed to be answered.

Rachel led the way today!  She said she was going to walk and pretend like I wasn't even there.  (sniff ... sniff ... )  She did great and knew exactly where she was going!  You go girl!

And check the sunlight shining on her ...

Here is the obligatory picture in front of the school.  Sorry I forgot that yesterday!

This is the hamburger!  (See yesterday's post.)  Rachel says that they take turns climbing up in it.  If you haven't climbed up yet, then you are a new hamburger.  When you come down, you are an old hamburger.

  Checking in ...

Take Home Folder on the table ...
(By the way, folder lets us know how her behavior was every day.  Two excellent days in a row!)

And putting backpack in the cubby.  Off to learn!

Oh, and I almost forgot ... Rachel informed me today that she has changed her mind about what she wants to be when she grows up.  She no longer wants to be a "ballerina teacher", but she now wants to be a teacher.  I told her that she could be a teacher and teach ballet.  "No, a teacher at the school ... like Mrs. Kuhn."  Sweet.

First Day of Kindergarten

First Day of Kindergarten
Author unknown

Every one has a "first day"
when they feel sad and all alone,
It can be so scary
when you're out on your own.
And I know that a "first day"
can be full doubts and fears,
But they're full of new beginnings.
Take my hankie, dry your tears.

Fancy first day breakfast!

You'll find lots of things to do
and you'll probably make new friends.
I promise we'll be together
when the school day ends.

Here comes the teacher
blow your nose and be brave.
Come on now and wipe your eyes,
this is no way to behave.

Well good morning teacher.
We really must beg your pardon.
No, MOMMY doesn't always act this way,
But it's my first day of ...KINDERGARTEN!

Really, I didn't get weepy.  I did great.  But Rachel did an awesome job.  She was brave and excited.

Rachel was excited to tell me about the new friend she made with curly hair, but she can't remember her name!  They played together in the hamburger on the playground. ???  The hamburger???  I have no explanation for that one.

Stop taking pictures, Mom!

Before school started ... waiting with her friends to go in the classroom.

The biggest letdown of the day was lunch.  She changed her mind and decided she wanted chicken nuggets from the cafeteria, but it was too late.  We had already packed her lunch.  She said she TOLD ME THAT SHE WANTED CHICKEN NUGGETS.  Yea, its all my fault.  I know.  I'll let ya down, babe.  Only God won't ... He's the man.

It was wonderful to see that beautiful little face coming out of that building this afternoon.  She looked happy, and that is what I had hoped and prayed for all day long.  I tried to get a picture of her when I picked her up, but I had a hard time multitasking that one.  I need a live-in photographer!

We ventured for a little first-day-of-school treat - Frosty at Wendy's!  Yum-O!

Rachel loved her first day of school!  Praying for many more successful ones!

Tomorrow is the first day of school ...

My stomach is in knots.  I feel like it is my first day of school tomorrow.  But I'll be at home and my baby girl will be at school.  What a reverse.

Here was her very first day of school; five years ago ...

I know she is prepared.  I know she is excited.  And I know she will do a phenomenal job!  We met her teachers Monday night, and Mrs. Kuhn and Mrs. Burns seemed great.  She explored in her classroom and already seemed to feel so comfortable.  In addition to the hamster, she found a bin of dinosaurs that she sat and played with for awhile.

Rachel told me yesterday that she was worried about making friends.  She said that her teacher would probably sit her towards the front because she was new.  It took a little explaining for her to understand that all of the kids in her class are new!  I think that made her feel a little better once she understood that.  And I don't think she'll have any trouble making friends.  She has a magnetic personality!  But we prayed tonight that she would be kind, loving, and friendly to the other students.

God, help her to remember that Mom & Dad love her, and You and Jesus love her and are with her always.  She'll do great!

Summer Daze ...

Today we ventured over to Fort Mill Elementary to meet the principal, Mrs. Helms, and get Rachel's teacher assignment for Kindergarten!  It was an exciting morning.  I wanted Rachel to meet her so that Rachel could have a good first impression of her principal.  And so that the principal would know who we were.  I gotta make my connections.  Sorry no picture of this.  There will be plenty to come soon, I promise.

But this was before we left ... I had to grab my camera really quickly because I thought it was so sweet!

After that, we ate lunch with David and then went to the park.  We hit the park because it was only 90 degrees today!  Woo, cool day!

Rachel's photography skills ... Poor girl can't stand still long enough.

And then we decided to let Alex take our picture.  Just kidding!

Alex didn't care for the swing so much, but it has always been Rachel's favorite part!  She has finally really gotten the hang of pumping with her legs, so she can swing high all on her own now.  Watch out Kindergarten, here she comes!
